Hi Kristian, Rachel -

I’m a technology leader with over 20 years’ experience building and leading cross-functional teams across strategy, partnerships, product development, and software engineering. I’d love to be considered for the Head of Strategy & Platform role at Transition.

I’ve spent the past 6 years in Microsoft’s Office of the CTO, where I built and led the team responsible for the CTO’s strategic technology partnerships - including Microsoft’s flagship collaboration with OpenAI. In that role I worked directly with the CEO, CTO, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team to shape strategy, prepare business cases, and lead complex cross-company programs from idea to execution.

I recently relocated to London and have founded Frontier Impact, an AI advisory firm. As part of that work I support startups and the investment team and portfolio companies at a London-based venture capital firm - advising on AI strategy, making introductions to industry leaders, and mentoring their portfolio companies’ leaders.

I’ve spent my career at the interface of technology and business, identifying high-impact opportunities, building the programs around them, and working with founders and senior executives to execute. At Microsoft I helped design and lead cross-company innovation programs that connected research breakthroughs to product teams and go-to-market. And in my current advisory work I do this at the portfolio level: helping founders accelerate by navigating technology decisions and connecting them to the right people, partners, and strategic resources.

I’ve negotiated and managed multibillion-dollar partnerships with OpenAI, and built multi-workstream, multi-year collaborations with Anthropic, AMD, Meta, and Amazon, and regularly worked with C-level leaders across the technology industry. I’m also a startup founder myself, and previously was a non-profit co-founder, a software engineer, and strategy leader at one of the world’d largest companies. I’m proud of my ability to think from first-principles, cut through ambiguity, earn trust with both early-in-career and C-suite partners, and execute on programs that deliver value for all stakeholders.

I’m drawn to Transition because I agree that the climate and tech transition is inevitable. But there are systemic ways in which humanity can accelerate that transition and at the same direct direct it toward better outcomes for society. I’d love the chance to help build something important alongside the team.

Thank you for your time; I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss this further.

Kind regards,

Phil Waymouth

I recently relocated to London and founded Frontier Impact, an AI advisory firm. As part of that work I support individual startups and the investment team and portfolio companies at a London-based venture capital firm - advising on AI strategy, building networks across industry leaders, and mentoring portfolio companies’ founders.

I spend my career at the interface of technology and business: identifying high-impact opportunities, building programs around them, and working with founders and senior executives to deliver. At Microsoft I helped design and lead cross-company innovation programs that connected research breakthroughs to product teams and go-to-market. In my current advisory work I do this at the portfolio level - helping founders accelerate by navigating technology decisions and connecting them to the right people, partners, and strategic resources.

I’ve negotiated and managed multibillion-dollar partnerships with OpenAI, and built multi-year collaborations with Anthropic, AMD, Meta, and Amazon, working regularly with C-level leaders across the technology industry. Earlier in my career I led Microsoft’s strategy for the UK Government’s Videogames Tax Relief, which gave me direct experience navigating policy and public-sector stakeholders to deliver commercial outcomes. I’m also a startup founder myself, a former non-profit co-founder, and started my career as a software engineer. I’m proud of my ability to think from first principles, cut through ambiguity, earn trust with both early-in-career and C-suite partners, and execute on programs that deliver value for all stakeholders.

I’m drawn to Transition because I agree that the climate and deep tech transition is inevitable - and because your framing of climate as a theme, not a sector, and the team you’ve built across technology, science, corporate, and policy can accelerate that transition in a way that benefits humanity and the world in which we live. I’d love the chance to contribute.

Thank you for your time. There is more information in my CV (attached); I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss this opportunity further.

Hi Kristian, Rachel -

I’ve spent the past six years building and leading Microsoft’s most strategic technology partnerships, including its collaboration with OpenAI, and now work with venture funds and founders on AI strategy. I’d love to be considered for the Head of Strategy & Platform role at Transition.

At Microsoft, I built and led the team responsible for the CTO’s strategic partnerships, working closely with the CEO, CTO and Senior Leadership Team. My focus was identifying where emerging technologies could create long-term advantage, shaping the strategy around them, and then leading complex, cross-company programs from idea through to execution.

More recently, I relocated to London and founded Frontier Impact, where I advise companies and investors on how to take advantage of AI. My work includes supporting a venture firm and its portfolio companies - helping founders think through technical strategy, connecting them with relevant partners across the ecosystem, and supporting key technical, organisational, and cultural decisions as they scale.

This experience aligns closely with what you’re building at Transition:

  • I’ve worked directly with founders and operators to translate new technologies into company strategy and execution

  • I’ve built and managed senior relationships across organisations including OpenAI, Anthropic, AMD, Meta and Amazon

  • I’m comfortable leading strategic projects end-to-end, particularly where they cut across multiple teams or organisations

I spend my career at the interface of technology and business - helping identify high-impact opportunities, building programs around them, and working with people to get them done.

I’m particularly drawn to Transition’s focus on climate as a systems-level challenge. Much of my career has been about enabling platform shifts - most recently in AI - and I’m interested in applying that experience to technologies reshaping the physical world. The combination of company building, ecosystem development, and working closely with founders is especially appealing.

After two decades in larger organisations, I’m now focused on working more directly with early-stage companies and small teams, where this kind of work can have the most impact.

Thanks for your time—there’s more detail in my CV, and I’d welcome the chance to talk further.

Kind regards,

Phil Waymouth

More recently, I relocated to London and founded Frontier Impact, where I advise companies and investors on how to take advantage of AI. My current clients include an edtech startup, a large US foundation, and a London-based venture firm where I work with the investment team and portfolio companies - helping founders think through technical strategy, connecting them with partners across the ecosystem, and supporting key decisions as they scale. I’ve also been both a commerical and non-profit founder myself, which shapes how I work with early-stage teams.

I believe my experience maps closely to what you’re building at Transition:

  • I’m used to leading strategic projects end-to-end, particularly where they cut across multiple teams or organisations

Earlier in my career, I led Microsoft’s strategy for the UK Government’s Videogames Tax Relief, working closely with policy stakeholders to deliver a commercially meaningful outcome. Alongside my private-sector experience, this gave me a practical understanding of how policy and commercial interests intersect.

I enjoy spending my career at the interface of technology and business, helping identify high-impact opportunities, building programs around them, and working with people to get them done.

I’m drawn to Transition’s focus on climate as a “systems-level challenge”.
